2 Peter 2:1-22

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; ...

Consider the time frame when Peter was speaking. The Law was given on Mount Sinai around 1400BC. Moses was instructed to make a tabernacle to use as a portable tent that could be used as a Temple. Peter wrote in another place that if this tent(mortal body)were dissolved we have a building(glorified body)in heaven. Solomon built a building in Jerusalem around 1000BC that would serve as the permanent temple. The temple in Jerusalem was defiled by Babylon around 600BC. Jeremiah prophesied that the Jews would be in Babylon for 70 years. Daniel was given revelations of the time when the messiah would come as well as a warning that the temple would be defiled again(Antiochus Epiphanies of Greece)in the second century B.C and again (Titus of Rome) 70AD. Jesus said that there wouldn't be one stone left on top of another.

Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
